I have always liked to draw, but I started taking it seriously when I was in 6th grade; although, I never began to feel comfortable with my work until about 2002.
How do you make your art?
Many different ways. The most common way for me to put a piece together is to start with a pencil sketch and scan it. I then color it in Corel Photopaint. I have done a handful from scratch on the computer, but I usually do not have enough patience for that method. I used to color with a mouse, which is what most of my artwork is colored with, although I recently got a tablet. Mmm, my tablet is wonderful, but it took some getting used to. I also love scratchboard, but I really do not do enough of it.
Does this take a long time?
That depends on how much time I have, and how much I enjoy the piece I'm working on. The sketches usually take about 10-20 minutes, and the coloring, can be anywhere from a few hours to a few days or even weeks.
What are your favorite things to draw?
Simple answer: people, especially faces. The challenge of it is very satisfying. Obviously, Zelda as well. There's a lot o things I'd love to expland my horizons to: landscapes, architecture, narrative/symbolic pieces, stories told in music, military...stuff like that. Someday in the future.
What Kind of training do you have?
I'm pretty much self taught. I've had personal courses given to me by freinds who are artists, and I took as many art classes in high school as I could. I'm working on getting into the art institutes maybe. But that will be some time form now. Otherwise, I study a lot of photographs, as well as other artist's techniques.
I've noticed that some of your work is signed "Brandi Brown."
Yes, I got married in February of 05. Changing my name was a big decision due to several aspects of my work, but I decided to keep up the tradition.
What else do you do?
I work. A lot. I just finished school for respiratory therapy in the military, and I love it. It can be frustrating at times, but there's no feeling like knowing that you helped someone live another day. There's so much to see and learn as well, being in the medical field. I also listen to music almost constantly. Right now my favorite band is Opeth, but I lsiten to a little of everything, and appreciate most any music when true effort has been put into it. I enjoy talking to my parents and sister (who are in another state), hanging out with friends, a bit of shopping, my computer, guitar guitar, sleeping, eating, humor, video games, dancing and the list goes on...
Do you take commissions?
Possibly. Depends on circumstances. If you really, really want me to draw something for you, e-mail me, and I might be able to work something out.
Tell me more about yourself.
hahaha...uh, no. There's not a whole lot to know, really. I was born in 1984. I'm a part of a non-denominational biblical research, teaching, and fellowship ministry called The Way International. I also love my country and I'm currently serving it now. That's quite a stressful task, but I manage to keep on going somehow. Those two things are my main priorities. Oh, and Ice Cream. Can't forget that. The rest about me...well, that's classified info ;)
